How does it works?

At each DFU event a speaker or panel of speakers will share their knowledge for 45 minutes. DFU speakers can be academics, local experts or members of the community with something interesting and new to say. The next 45 minutes are open for discussion and debate.

No need to enrol. Attendance is free.

Everybody has something to contribute.

Everybody’s contribution is valued.

Feminism and Gender Series

 

Find out more about feminist and gender theory as well as hear from activists about why feminism remains important today. Our series will run from October 2014 – May 2015.

Wednesday 29 October 2014 – 6-7:30pm

I’d like to see a course on continental/European philosophy (maybe a general introduction emphasizing its commitment to freedom and emancipation, or perhaps individual courses on marxism/existentialism/critical theory/post-structuralism etc). Otago University’s parochial and politically conservative philosophy department offers no such courses, and needs a good kick in the arse — as do philosophy students for tolerating such an anti-philosophical, anti-democratic and ignorant stance!

    Other ideas: critical and radical interpretations of e.g. the economic crisis, the ecological crisis, state surveillance and repression, how to prepare for the revolution/collapse/apocalypse…

    • Hi Paul – great suggestion! We are definitely going to be incorporating some of continental philosophy into our #feminism series. Next year, we are hoping to run a course on ‘radical philosophy’ which will engage with these ideas too 🙂
